Blues' Ryan Reaves ejected after boarding Matt Tennyson (Video)
The first period of Monday’s St. Louis Blues-San Jose Sharks game saw a scary incident happen involving Matt Tennyson.
While retrieving a puck behind the San Jose net, Blues forward Ryan Reaves drilled Tennyson into the boards. During the hit, Tennyson’s head hit the glass, knocking him out on his skates. He then hit his head then hit the ice during his fall.
Reaves was given a five-minute major for boarding and a game misconduct. Fortunately, Tennyson was able to get his feet and leave the game under his own power. San Jose would score twice on the ensuing power play.
Tennyson is in a defenseless position while collecting the puck and Reaves sees numbers the entire way. The Sharks defenseman doesn’t make any last second movements to adjust his positioning, so it’s up to Reaves to minimize contact, especially in such a dangerous area as along the boards.
Reaves has already heard from the NHL’s Department of Player Safety once this season after he was fined for in November for elbowing Anze Kopitar of the Los Angeles Kings.
